Matthew has had a long and illustrious career in complex capital markets, spanning 30 years and three continents. Prior to co founding Protos Cryptocurrency Asset Management, Matthew has been a Founder and General Partner of First Block Capital since March 2017. First Block is Canada’s first regulated crypto investment firm. It is the manager of FBC Bitcoin Trust, the world’s first open ended bitcoin fund. Matthew has also set up a family office for his family focussed on angel and early stage investments in renewables, fintech, tech, digital assets and impact investments. From 2003 to 2013 Matthew was an Advisor to the Chairman of Gazprombank and as part of that role, established and jointly ran a carbon fund joint venture between Gazprombank and Dresdner (then Commerzbank) called Carbon Trade & Finance SICAR. From 2002 to 2003 Matthew was General Manager, DEPFA Investment Bank Limited (DIBL), focussed on complex national debt. From 1987 through 2002 Matthew held several positions at major financial institutions including ANZ Merchant Bank and UBS, working on complex governmental financial products including multi-country debt cancellation swaps, trading and market making. Matthew is also the founder of Navigator Capital, DEPFA Investment Bank Limited, Protos, mCloud Corp and SteviaLife Sweeteners. Matthew is a Graduate at Singularity University and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Manchester University, UK and an MBA from Bradford University, UK.
Philipp has significant experience of the strategy development for systematic trading strategies across asset classes (including equity, bonds, commodities and fiat currencies). Philipp has been an Advisor of First Block Capital since May 2017. Prior to this, Philipp was Director at Harcourt/Vontobel Asset Management AG in Zurich, Switzerland from 2013 to 2017. While at Harcourt Philipp specialized in the application of machine learning to multi factor market dynamics, as well as examining risk and return characteristics of a large universe of individual commodity trading advisors (CTAs) and in particular analyzing the relationship between CTAs and market volatility, frequency and autocorrelation. From 2012 until 2013 and a successful exit, Philipp was a co-founder at Jumiya Inc. in Palo Alto, California, working on the application of big data analytics to financial data. From 2008 until 2013 Philipp was a co-founder at Alligator Trading GmbH in Berlin, Germany and Partner at Centrade Capital Management GmbH in Zurich, Switzerland, which also successfully exited. From 2006 to 2008, Philipp was a Quantitative Analyst at the Landesbank Berlin in Berlin, Germany. Philipp is an alumnus of the Graduate Studies Program at Singularity University and has a Doctorate in Computational Neuroscience as well as Diplom in Engineering and Management and Diplom in Psychology and Vordiplom in Physics from TU Berlin, Germany.
Tom has been investing in cryptocurrency and ICOs since their early days in 2012. From 2009 to 2011 Tom was an equity partner and investee at Green Angel Energy, a publicly traded clean energy technology investment fund focused on commercializing technologies that produce renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, or use renewable energy resources such as water, wind and solar. From 2007 to 2011, Tom founded Habitat Carbon Assets, one of the first developers of carbon credits under the Clean Development Mechanism in Latin America. Tom is an alumnus of the Graduate Studies Program at Singularity University and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Geography from Simon Fraser University as well as a Diploma in Finance from National University of Singapore.

Jules was one of the founders of Ashmore plc, which went from a small start-up to the FTSE 100 within 10 years, to become the world’s largest emerging markets fund manager with more than $60 billion AUM.
At Ashmore (1999-2009) he served as Executive Director, Senior Portfolio Manager and Member of the Investment Committee. He was responsible on a day to day basis for managing the group’s fixed income portfolio of over $30 billion. After leaving Ashmore, he was a director of AEI a large energy business focused in emerging markets.
Currently he actively manages his personal investments, and is also owner and manager of a large 2,500 acre arable farm in England. He is an advisor to TLG, an Africa focused VC, as well as being CEO and director of SteviaLife Sweeteners (co-founded by Matthew Shaw), an agricultural impact investment in Rwanda employing 800 full time staff.

Nigel has a very successful portfolio management and trading career spanning 30 years. He worked as a Senior Macro Portfolio Manager for Tudor Investment Corporation ‘Tudor’ for nearly 15 years including 6 in charge of the USD3bn Tudor Emerging Markets Legacy Portfolio. He also founded and was CEO and CIO of VZ Capital, a Hedge Fund start up which was seeded by Tudor and Vinci Partners of Brazil.
Previously Nigel was a founding member and Investment Committee member at Ashmore Investment Management with responsibility for a multi billion-dollar portfolio of emerging market foreign exchange, local markets and equity positions. Nigel also structured and managed the Ashmore Russian Recovery Fund that focused on opportunities related to the local fixed income and equity markets in the post-Russian debt default environment. Prior to Ashmore, Nigel was a Managing Director and emerging markets proprietary trader at Deutsche Bank, responsible for USD1bn of trading limits in the local fixed income markets and structured products businesses, he also served as a member of the bank’s Emerging Markets Operating and Management Committee.
Before Deutsche, Nigel was employed at Standard Bank, Samuel Montagu and Citicorp Investment Bank, gaining experience in Corporate Finance and setting up new trading businesses to access the local capital markets of many emerging market countries. During his time at Samuel Montagu in the early 1990s he re-located to Caracas in Venezuela where he lived for 2 years.
Currently he manages his personal investments from his base in London and provides certain Hedge Fund Advisory Services. Nigel holds a Bachelor of Science in Monetary Economics from the London School of Economics and qualified as a Chartered Accountant while working at PwC in London (1983-1986).

Christian is the Founder of both Firstchain Capital and Swiss Founders Fund (SFF), an early investor in cryptocurrencies and a backer of many blockchain-based companies globally.
Before founding SFF, Christian was Co-Founder & COO of HotelQuickly, the leading last-minute hotel booking app in Asia-Pacific. Previously, he was Co-Founder, CTO & COO at Foodpanda, which was acquired by Delivery Hero in 2016 and went public in 2017. He also founded a recruiting company in 2009, a publishing house & media company in 2003, and his first company, an IT startup, at age 16.
Christian was a Captain at the Swiss Military Intelligence and holds a CEMS double master’s degree in Banking & Finance and International Management from the University of St.Gallen (HSG) and Rotterdam School of Management (RSM).
Ethereum and Mist Developer, Lead Dapp Developer Ethereum
Fabian is a long term open source developer, author and developer of many open source projects including Ethereum’s Mist browser and the Ethereum Wallet.
Together with Vitalik Buterin he proposed the ERC20 token standard, which spurred a new era of tokenised investment and crowd ownership.
He will advise Protos to make the right technical decisions, support backed projects and educate Protos on projects within the Blockchain space.

Simon is the Head of Research at Naissance Capital where he covers a wide array of investment coverage, including public equities, private equity, and venture capital and also launched the Frontier Enterprise Fund (FEF) platform.
Before Naissance, he spent time doing market analysis and research at institutions such as Allianz Private Equity Partners, fundinfo AG, and Boston Consulting Group. At fundinfo, he launched a sister website called etfinfo.com covering public ETFs.
Simon was a paramedic in the Bavarian Red Cross and holds a BA HSG in Business Administration degree and a Masters in Banking and Finance degree, both from the University of St. Gallen.

Anish has been working in the security and cryptography area for the past 18 years as a researcher and as a consultant. He has spent half his career researching cryptographic algorithms and protocols. He has also worked as a strategy consultant for Accenture and Capgemini. Anish has been involved in the Blockchain ecosystem as one of the founding members of the United Kingdom Digital Currency Association (UKDCA).
Anish is also on the advisory board for Adjoint, Arteia, Privacy Shell, Collider-X, Ripple Labs, Hyperloop Transport Technologies, EA Ventures, IEET and Chain of Things. Currently, he is focused on projects that involve security vs scalability vs consensus of Blockchain and using smart contracts for AI safety.
He is a regular speaker and contributor in the areas of AI safety, robotics, cybersecurity and blockchain. He is currently the chief science officer for Blockchainsmokers and Dean of Blockchain technologies at Exosphere Academy.
